This course will focus on a comparison of classical and contemporary writings on gender and sexuality, illustrating the clinical use of our understanding of multiple psychoanalytic perspectives. We will cover the field from Freud and his followers/critics to contemporary relational thinkers such as Harris, Benjamin, Stein, Corbett, Davis and others. Students will have a chance to familiarize themselves with debates about the Oedipus complex, masculinity and femininity, penis envy, domination, sexual excitement and excess, and their relevant clinical applications.
